Nestled into the tranquil landscape, La Porcherie is a high-quality gite offering accommodation for two people, in the hamlet of Villemonteix, which is at the gateway to the Monts et Barrages National Park.

Recently renovated to a very high standard, the building (which used to house both a piggery and a bread oven) has kept all the character one would expect in a building of this nature (but the pigs have been evicted!). Wood beams and original stone walls are balanced with the comfort of modern conveniences, resulting in a light and airy place to stay.

The accommodation comprises one bedroom (double bed), bathroom (with a large shower cabin), and an open-plan sitting-room/kitchen. The kitchen is fitted with a quality cooker, microwave and washing machine. A TV/DVD is provided (with a selection of DVDs) and access to the owners book library is given for the duration of your stay.

The gite is available for rent all year, and if you decide to come and experience the Limousin in low or mid-season we can assure your warmth and comfort. The bathroom is equipped with an electric heater that fills the room with warm air in a very short time. The main body of the gite is heated by means of a wood burner in the sitting room. A daily allowance of wood is included in the tariff during the appropriate seasons.

There is a small private garden area with terrace, seating and barbeque and an above-ground swimming pool (24 x 12 foot) is also available for use by the guests.

The property is set in a private garden of over an acre which includes a small organic garden, and produce will be available to guests depending on the season. Free range chickens roam the grounds and eggs (depending on availability) will also be available.

Due to the resident chickens and cats, we regret that we are unable to allow pets. Facilities such as a cot can be provided for infants upon request. The gite is non-smoking throughout.

The Area
Local attractions include (but are not limited to) a beach (5 minutes away) at Lac de St Helene, horse riding, fishing, walking, cycling, and water skiing. Slightly further afield you will find Lac de Vassiviere, the Plateau de Mille Vaches and the volcanic region of the Massif Central to the east and, of course, Limoges to the west.

The medieval town of St Leonard de Noblat is about 10 minutes drive from the gite, and offers facilities from local shops, to a cinema, and museums of railways and papermaking, as well as restaurants and a weekly market.

Extras
If you are looking for more than just a relaxing place to stay then we can arrange various courses with local people, from painting through photography and French cookery to Tai-chi. If you have any other ideas then we will try to source an expert!

Depending on his availability, for that special touch, we can arrange a French Chef de Cuisine to come to the gite and prepare a gourmet meal - charges will depend on the menu!

Tariff
Low season (October to March) - 280€ / £195 per week
Mid season (April, May, June, September) - 350€ / £240 per week
High season (July, August, Easter, Xmas, New Year) - 420€ / £290 per week

Bed linen and towels are included.
Daily wood allowance is included in season.
Electricity and water is included unless booking is for long-term when it is charged by agreement.
Extras charges for courses are by agreement and are payable in advance.
Extra charges for the chef are by agreement and are payable in advance.
Extra charges for produce are payable at the end of the stay.

A booking deposit of 25% is payable on booking with the balance being due 8 weeks prior to arrival. Cancellation charges are pro rata depending on notice of cancellation and are fully explained in our Terms and Conditions.
A security deposit of 150€ / £100 is payable on arrival and refund of this is made at the end of the let and is fully explained in our Terms and Conditions that will be sent upon receipt of booking or earlier by request.
Payment can be accepted in either Sterling or Euros.
