Cliff Cottage, Voulême

Location. This 2 bedroom cottage - in the Vienne department of the Poitou Charentes - is situated in a tiny hamlet a short drive from the lovely market town of Civray - on the river Charente - with its XII Century church, shops, restaurants and bars plus a twice weekly market.

The village of Voulême is just across the old stone bridge on other side of the river Charente and offers a boules (petanque) pitch (there are boules provided in the cottage) and café/restaurant.

The river Charente is close to the house and can be seen from the terrace at the rear of the property. Additionally, Ruffec, a charming town with many examples of fine architecture and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, is just a short drive away and has markets on two different days of the week.

The peaceful and tranquil countryside is ideal for those who enjoy walking, cycling and fishing and both Ruffec and Civray have open air swimming pools.

This cottage is perfect as a long term let to get a feel for this delightful region of France or as a base while you search for your own property.

The Cottage. Whilst it is impossible to know with any accuracy, the house dates from around the time of the French Revolution and, although completely modernised, retains much of its former character. Tastefully renovated, pleasantly furnished and well equipped, the cottage offers accommodation for up to 5 people and comprises:

Kitchen - The kitchen area is fully equipped with a ceramic hob, oven, microwave, dish washer and fridge/freezer, plus abundant pots, pans and utensils.

Dining room - the other half of the large room from the kitchen, dining table and 6 chairs, and with original flagstone floor, stone sink and huge open fireplace with wood burner fitted.

Living room - a large room which is comfortable and intimate, with a wood burning stove for the colder months. There is a stereo with a huge range of CDs and tapes which you are welcome to use, a TV with Freesat, a good selection of DVDs a video and lots of kids classic films.

Bedroom 1 - with double bed.

Bedroom 2 - with king size bed and ample wardrobe space.

Both bedrooms have exposed stone walls and wonderful views over the river Charente.

Bathroom - with shower over bath and containing the washing machine.

Kitchen towels, bath towels and bedlinen (including English pillows) are included in the price.

Outside there is an area below the barn where you can park your car, and a seating area above the house with table and chairs.

Additionally, there is a raised terrace behind the house which affords stunning views over the river and countryside beyond, and a small table and chairs are also provided for use on this area.
