Very comfortable, 3 bedroom detached house with large, fully enclosed garden bordering the little Salz river. An ideal place for relaxation and tranquility, and an ideal base from which to explore the region.
The house, which is forty years old, is on two levels and is ideal for singles, couples or small groups.
The property is located in the Corbiere hills (less than one hour's drive south of Carcassonne) in the very pretty, thermal village of Rennes les Bains. The village offers a purpose-built swimming pool that makes use of the healthy, warm spring waters.

The main (upper) level has an entrance hall, modern kitchen, dining room, lounge leading to sun lounge, main bedroom (sleeps two) leading to small office (could sleep one child), and bathroom / toilet. The sun lounge with its huge sliding windows, and the office, both open onto the veranda and overlook the garden and the wooded hills beyond.

A spiral staircase leads down to the lower level which has two bedrooms and a shower / toilet. Also on this level is a large garage and ‘cave’ for keeping wine. There is central heating throughout and a log-burning fire in the dining room. Linen and towels are provided. In the lounge is a radio / CD player but there is no television or computer.
The area is fabulous for walks, drives, history, pre-history, swimming, canoeing and the local wines. Mediterranean beaches can be reached in an hour and a half and Toulouse, Perpignan, Montpellier and Barcelona are all within a half day's drive.

The Village: Rennes les Bains dates back to Roman times and is well-known as a thermal spa. It is heavily featured in the novel Sepulchre. Natural warm waters spring up at various points round the village. Next to this is a well-established health centre offering a variety of short or long-term treatments.
The village straddles the Salz, an unusual river in it being salty. Rennes les Bains has a permanent population of around 160 which grows considerably during the spring and summer. There is a little village square which has music and dancing on summer evenings and which accommodates market stalls on some days. There is an art gallery, a post office, a few small shops for essentials, a bar with snacks, a pizzeria and three other restaurants. There is a sports area with tennis courts, crazy golf and a boules pitch. This long term let offers you an ideal base for swimming, walking, hiking, canoeing and ballooning.
The Region: A few kilometres away is Rennes le Chateau, the hill-top hamlet beloved by readers of the The Da Vinci Code and The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail. Also of interest is that this is Cathar country, home of the breakaway Christian sect which crushed in the thirteenth century. There are many spectacular Cathar castles such as Queribus, Puilaurens, Peyrepertuse and Montsegur perched high on rocky outcrops, all within a couple of hours drive. One hour to the north is the spectacular medieval city of , still inhabited and designated a World Heritage Site. Two hours to the west are the prehistoric cave paintings at Niaux. lies in the Corbiere Hills, foothills to the eastern and characterised by spectacular river gorges, forests, acres of vineyards and truly beautiful French villages.
